존노블의 단편영화 FRIEND

John Noble is back in our lives in a grand way as the star of Friend, a beautifully emotional short film teeming with the Fringe DNA. "My daughter Jessie approached me with the script and I fell in love with the story, the message, and the character," says Noble, who then proudly showed his daughter's script "to my Fringe family...and suddenly we had a small crew of offering themselves to get this film made!"

The "labor of love," as Noble calls it, was filmed over a weekend break in Vancouver (at both Noble's home and Stanley Park) while the beloved Fox sci-fi drama was wrapping its series finale. So you'd think everyone involved with that massive episode would have preferred the time off. Not exactly.

"The amazing thing about Friend was our entire production team was made up of Fringe crew. That's what made it such a unique and personal project," recounts Noble. "Our director was Fringe director of photography David Geddes; our editor was Ari Margolis, who created Fringe's wonderful online trailers; and our original music was composed by Jeremy Little, who contributed that wonderful cover of "If I Only Had A Brain" heard in 'The Firefly' episode from Season 3." In addition, the actor says that "the cameramen, grips, lighting, sound, catering, script supervisor, makeup, hair, wardrobe, props — they all came from the Fringe family and brought this project to life. Jasika Nicole even designed and handmade the paper flowers used in the film. It was a family project in every sense."

Telling the story of a man dealing with grief in a manner even Walter Bishop would admire, Noble has no doubt that the short — which also features a final-moments appearance by Penny Noble, his wife of 40 years — "will be considered cryptic by some...there is a lot to this little film and I look forward to sharing it with Fringe fans who appreciate the mysterious side of life."
